Chapter 14: Pacas, Transport, and Cargo
Pacas as mounts, cargo capacity, care, and bonding.
The Common Mount
Pacas are llama-like creatures with unusually large eyes and soft moth antennae. They are calm, patient, and surprisingly intelligent. They serve as mounts, cargo animals, companions, and travel infrastructure.
Types of Pacas
| Type | Stats / Use | Cost Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Battle Paca | Constitution 8, Damage 2 kick, AP 1. Can be ridden into combat. | Moderate daily rental. Very Expensive to Extreme purchase. |
| Loot Paca | Constitution 6, carries cargo, flees if threatened. | Cheap to Moderate daily rental. Expensive purchase. |
| Caravan Paca | Constitution 5, pulls carts and wagons in teams. | Moderate to Expensive rental with cart. Very Expensive purchase. |
Paca Cargo
| Cargo Option | Capacity |
|---|---|
| Paca Harness | +20 items |
| Cart | +50 items |
| Wagon | +100 items |
Cargo carried by Pacas, carts, and wagons does not affect Contractor Dexterity unless a Contractor is physically dragging, lifting, or defending it.
Caring for a Paca
Pacas require one ration per Travel Day unless the party travels at Slow Pace. Pacas can be injured. A Paca reduced to 0 Constitution dies rather than resetting like a Contractor.
Bonded Paca: Spirit 20+
A Contractor with Spirit 20+ may bond with a Paca as a permanent familiar.
A bonded Paca:
- Returns to the Contractor across distance when possible.
- Can be communed with silently.
- Can be commanded with a single Consume or Commune action without a Skill Check.
- Gains +2 Constitution and either +1 Damage or +1 AP.
- Levels narratively with the Contractor.
Losing a bonded Paca is a major narrative event. The Contractor loses 1d5 Motivation and suffers -2 Spirit until Town Leave.
